The Wedding Day: Part I
I remember someone telling me their wedding day felt like a dream. Well, mine was certainly no exception. I couldn’t believe how fast it went and how much fun I had, and the best part was that I wasn’t stressed at all! (Well, other than my wedding morning, but you’ll read more about that later).
So I’m going to be doing these posts separately because I literally have so much to say and so little room to say it
Our day began early as we had to set up the reception hall with the centerpieces for the florist. We woke up around 6:30 and left at 7 for Brandywine. My maid of honor, Megan stayed with us the night before so she tagged along as well. We arrived at Brandywine and were worried when there was a table missing and many chairs missing as well. There were also some tables without a mirror (for the centerpieces) and needless to say I was a litttttle bit stressed. Thank goodness they set out all of the cylinders for me to put the stones in for my centerpieces! I spent the time putting the stones in and counting missing chairs for the tables.
My aunt also came that morning to help. She even had a few surprises for me in store! I wasn’t going to give favors out because we were having a photobooth, but she bought little M&Ms with our faces on one, our wedding date on another, our names, and a little wedding cake stamped on them in our wedding colors, turquoise and white! It was an awesome present and everyone really loved them! We set those out at each place setting as well. Soon, it was time for us to get to our hair appointment so we left. Thank goodness the person in charge there called us and let us know that the mirrors were being set out and the chairs would be coming later (whew!)
Our hair appointments started around 9. My mom bought some Panera bagels and brought mimosas for us to enjoy when we were getting our hair done. The salon had 3 ladies for our bridal party so we took turns getting our hair done. I was so pleased with how everyone’s hair looked! I paid for everyone’s hair as a part of their bridal party gift as well. I let my bridesmaids pick what they wanted for their hairstyle. My mom even got her hair styled! Hers looked super cute
I also got my makeup done at the same salon. I made sure to tell the lady that I barely wear makeup and I wanted it very minimal. I was pleasantly surprised with how simple she made it but at the same time what a difference it made! My mom kept telling me how beautiful I looked, which made me really happy!
I think my bridesmaids had fun getting their hair done. After we were done there, we all went to Panera for lunch. I was wearing my veil since my stylist put it in with pins so it wouldn’t fall out, so everyone kept staring at me and congratulating me at Panera! It was also nice to just hang out with my mom and bridesmaids before the real crazy stuff started happening
After lunch, we all went to the church to just sit and chill for a while. I was expecting our hair to take until 12 and it was done at 11 so we had an extra hour to spare. We got to the church around 12:30 and it was nice to catch up with my friends since most of them are from out of town. I still wasn’t feeling nervous but it started to become really real to me! My flowers arrived around 1:30 accompanied by two employees of my florist. They were a riot! They kept telling me how I was one of the calmest brides they’ve ever seen. I guess when you are more excited than stressed about your wedding, that will happen!
It was even more exciting when the boys arrived at the church. I had to run to hide behind the curtains so Jim wouldn’t see me before the ceremony (not like I had my dress on anyways), but some of them had their tuxes on and they looked so handsome! My photographer arrived soon after the guys and she started taking some detail shots of my dress before I put it on. She also went around the church and took pictures of little details (including my turquoise shoes!)
I had also written a letter to Jim for him to read before the ceremony. I had my maid of honor deliver it to him. I can’t wait to see the pictures of him reading it! Jim wrote me one as well (telling me that he forgot his letter at home) but it was still sweet, nonetheless. We took pictures of me putting my dress on with my bridesmaids around me and then we took pictures in the sanctuary with the girls. And then I had to hide in the bridal room until we lined up!
It was so nice to have my dad come see me before the ceremony. He also wrote me a letter and it made me cry! He looked so handsome in his tux and he was so proud! My aunt and Jim’s mom also came to visit before the ceremony while I was in the room hiding. I also kept noticing people walking into the church which kept building my excitement!
Soon enough, it was time to line up to go down the aisle. I walked the long way to avoid people seeing me through the stained glass windows on the side of the church. People were still walking in and could see me from the window and they kept waving at me which I thought was funny. Jim’s cousin was singing the last song before the ceremony started and I turned to my bridesmaids and asked them is it alright to freak out now? I think in that moment is when it finally hit me.
My dad turned to me and said “I just can’t believe how beautiful you look” and of course that made me start crying right there. I kept taking deep breaths. I think I was more nervous of falling down the aisle than the actual getting married part! The music started playing and we walked out of the hall.
To be continued…
